Deyaneira Maldonado Ramírez, was born in Caguas and raised in Fajardo. Deyaneira studies Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao (UPRH) with a concentration in the History of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. As an artist working in painting and photography, she has participated in the Independent Study Program (PEI) of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) where she developed her project Between the Sky and the Ground. Deyaneira describes:
The project seeks to establish a conversation with the human community and the divine. Our ancestors used the masks to put order and interrogate matters of violence, they can judge, punish and forgive. In the end, I consider that in so much inequality and uncertainty in our daily lives the masks need to make space for the fight and become truth bearers.
